Handle Cats With Care

Paw-some Superstars – Handle Cats With Care 🐾⭐

This comic is about a boy learning an important lesson about how to pick up, hold and put down a cat safely.

One day, the boy picks up his cat. But instead of carefully lowering the cat back to the ground, he lets go while the cat is still above the floor.

“AAAH!”

The frightened cat falls to the ground.

Suddenly, the Paw-some Superstars appear—the Asian Leopard Cat, African Serval, Bengal and Savannah. It is time for another mission!

The Bengal transforms into an Asian Leopard Cat, revealing its wild ancestry, while the Savannah transforms into an African Serval.

“Stop!” warn the Superstars. “Cats may be agile, but that doesn't mean it is safe to drop them.”

They explain that rough handling or dropping a cat can cause pain or physical injury and can also frighten the cat. Repeated frightening experiences can damage the cat's trust in people. A frightened cat might also struggle, scratch or bite while trying to escape.

The Superstars show the boy a safer way. He should approach calmly and allow the cat to interact with him first. If the cat is comfortable being lifted, he should support the chest and the hindquarters, keeping the body secure rather than allowing the legs to dangle.

Most importantly, when putting the cat down, he should lower it gently until its paws are securely on the floor rather than dropping it.

They also teach him to watch the cat's body language. Flattened ears, struggling, growling, hissing, a tense body or attempts to escape can mean:

“I've had enough. Please put me down.”

The boy understands his mistake.

“I'm sorry. From now on, I'll handle cats gently and respect when they want to be left alone.”

The cat approaches him again, and the boy gives it affection without forcing it to stay.

The Paw-some Superstars smile.
