A Fun Jump… A Painful Fall
It was a beautiful sunny afternoon, and four adventurous friends—the Asian Leopard Cat, the African Serval, the Bengal, and the Savannah—were enjoying the view from a high balcony. Birds were singing, butterflies fluttered through the air, and everything seemed peaceful.
The Savannah spotted a bird flying past.
"I can catch it!" the Savannah thought excitedly.
Before anyone could stop it, the Savannah leapt towards the bird. But the balcony was much higher than it realised. Instead of landing safely, the Savannah fell to the ground below.
The Asian Leopard Cat cried out, "Savannah!"
The Serval and the Bengal rushed downstairs as quickly as they could. When they reached their friend, the Savannah was lying still and couldn't put weight on one of its legs.
"It really hurts," whispered the Savannah.
Their owner carefully picked up the injured cat, placed it in a secure carrier, and took it straight to the veterinary clinic.
The veterinary team gently examined the Savannah and took X-rays. The results showed that the Savannah had broken a leg.
The vet explained, "The bone will heal, but it needs a cast, pain relief, and plenty of rest. With good care and patience, you should make a full recovery."
For the next several weeks, the Savannah stayed indoors in a quiet, comfortable room. The other three cats visited every day, keeping their friend company. They curled up beside the Savannah, purred softly, and reminded their friend that no one had to recover alone.
Little by little, the leg became stronger.
The cast was removed, and the Savannah began walking again. At first, every step was slow and careful, but with time, rest, and gentle exercise, the Savannah regained its confidence.
One sunny morning, all four friends sat together again. This time, they admired the view safely from behind a secure balcony safety screen.
The Savannah smiled.
"I've learned that not every jump is a safe one."
The Bengal nodded.
"Being brave also means knowing when to be careful."
The Serval added, "The best adventures are the ones where everyone comes home safely."
The Asian Leopard Cat purred happily as they watched the birds from the safety of their protected balcony.
The Lesson
Cats can be attracted to birds, insects, or movement, and even agile cats can misjudge a jump or lose their footing. Balconies and open windows can be dangerous without proper protection.
Cat-safe balcony netting or screens, secure windows, and careful supervision help prevent serious falls and injuries. A few simple safety measures can protect curious cats and keep them safe for many happy adventures to come.
